Home Hardware is a leading Canadian
home improvement chain. Headquartered in
St. Jacobs, Ontario, boasting over 1100
stores and 3 distribution centers nationwide.
Approximately 120 independent hardware dealers
who found that they could not compete profitably
by following the traditional methods of
distribution founded the company in 1963.
Their objectives were to eliminate the middleman's
profit, obtain the advantages of quantity
purchasing and one-stop shopping, and at
the same time, develop an equity in relationship
to their purchases, thus building a strong
base which would allow them the resources,
facilities and staff to compete with any
form of competition. The company now has
almost 1000 independent hardware, building
supply and furniture members across Canada,
each of whom owns an equal share in the
company.
The
Challenge
Home Hardware exponential growth has increased
the complexity of their information systems
environment. As a result Home Hardware is
faced with the challenge of improving supply
chain processes, merchandising, and data
warehousing, and the need to increase effectiveness
on multiple promotions and store events.
